Façade inspection for falling objects from tall buildings in Singapore

Purpose This paper highlights a crucial public safety issue due to falling objects from tall residential buildings in Singapore. A systematic façade inspection regime and system of evaluation severity for the detection assessment potential are presented. Design/methodology/approach The research uses qualitative case study approach with 450 sampled study. common materials, elements, components high risk objects, nature type falling, critical factors affecting respective level severity, effectiveness various diagnostic techniques protocols, summarised. Findings Façade Singapore comprises mainly cementitious materials cast situ or precast, fixtures architectural features, all which have falling. anomalies arising each material fixture/features identified, causes evaluated their implications future design, construction maintenance analysed. Originality/value provides original significant information issue, setting design criteria that will serve as benchmark new existing facades, applicable cities dominated by buildings. presents figures, checklists guides basis readers' consideration use according unique conditions.
